Again got a chance to go to Google office , Bangalore 🙂 Attended ‘Women Techmakers’ event which was organized for increasing visibility and resources for all the technical women in the industry. It was a one day tech talk event.

The keynote speech was by Nora Denzel , Board Member of Ericsson, Saba Software and Outerwall (Past SVP of Big Data at Intuit, Past SVP of HP Consulting, Storage and Software Divisions, Past executive at IBM) . She has been recognized as one of the ten leading women in technology by CIO magazine and was also named one of the top 25 women engineers in 2012 by Business Insider. She gave awesome career tips for women who are about to yet start a career on how to choose a career path for themselves and also tips for women who are already working in the IT industry on how to avoid common problems faced in a technical career. She told us about what the pitfalls are in general and how we can avoid them.

Some amazing tips by Nora Denzel :

  • Always tell the truth. But not too much of it 😀
  • Get comfortable with what you are uncomfortable with.
  • Getting into a bad situation is not your fault , but staying in it is.

This was followed by a talk on Cloud Computing by Yamini Kanan , a software engineer in Google Bangalore who got her Masters from University of California , Berkeley. Following this we had a tech talk on Big Data Analytics by Aparna Gupta, Managing Director, FirstRain, India.

The end of the event was graced with an exciting panel discussion with phenomenal women who have achieved excellence in their respective fields and are successful entrepreneurs now. Panel featured Nita Goyal , the first woman Computer Science graduate from IIT’s .They all shared their experiences and words of wisdom for all women in the tech industry.

We were offered great food and fun giveaways! Waiting to get more opportunities like this so that I can meet more people and learn from it as it is truly said ‘No one can stop you from learning’.
