Women Techmakers is an initiative taken by Google to help in empowering women to pursue their dreams, assist them in career development and also personal growth.

This years event’s start was graced by keynote speech by Shibani Sanan, Engineering Director, Google. She enlightened us with her amazing journey on how she grew up from a Software Engineer at CMC Limited to an Engineering Director at Google today. She mentioned a short, simple yet important point – “Sit at the table” i.e the willingness to speak up, participating actively in everything, taking up new challenges, grabbing the front row and to ‘Never Underestimate Yourself’!

This was followed by a panel discussion by remarkable women in tech who have achieved excellence in their respective fields. Panel featured Rani Paruchuri, CEO at Dream Tekis Software Pvt.Ltd, Mythreyee Ganapathy, Principal Program Manager at Microsoft who shared their experiences and words of wisdom for all women in the tech industry with an apt phrase that ‘We need CS people: people with common sense, not computer science degree’!

Following lunch, we had a 2 hour Android Wear Design Sprint Workshop this time where we had to form teams and come up with some ideas and problems which we would like to solve with the Android Wear watch. It was a nice encounter to see some simple yet useful ideas by women at the event.

Event concluded with a lightning talk and Google Cardboard as giveaways!!

Looking forward to more opportunities like these to connect with people 🙂
